T'ai Chi Sword at Topanga Nursery - 11/07/2026 - 10 spots available

$35.00

Join martial arts and mindfulness instructor Joelle Nañawa at Topanga Nursery for an exploration of T’ai Chi sword (Jian), an elegant and dynamic martial arts practice that blends balance, precision, coordination, and focused intention.

Often described as an extension of the body, the Jian invites us to cultivate fluidity without sacrificing structure, strength without unnecessary tension, and precision without rigidity. Through mindful movement and foundational sword techniques, we'll explore how this traditional weapon challenges both body and mind while developing greater awareness, control, and confidence.

During class, you'll be guided through:

  • A brief introduction to T’ai Chi and the history of the Jian in Chinese martial arts

  • An invigorating Qigong warm-up to awaken the body, connect with the breath, and activate balance

  • Foundational T’ai Chi stances, alignment, and body mechanics

  • Essential Jian techniques, including grip, handling, and basic sword movements

  • The opening section of the 32-posture Yang style T’ai Chi sword form

All levels are welcome, and beginners are encouraged! Whether you're picking up a sword for the first time or returning to refine your technique, you'll have opportunities to explore, develop your skills, and challenge yourself at your own pace.

To keep the experience supportive, personal, and hands-on, class size is limited to 10 participants. Training swords will be provided for use during class.

Pre-registration is required to reserve your place.
